Village

The Guthu house is the traditional manor house of the coastal landlords, built on the model of Aya. This spacious house has clearly demarcated areas for various functions and rituals, besides being large enough to have separate wings for household, bath, cattle, store house and servants quarters. The woodwork comprising of the ceiling, door/windows and intricately carved pillars are a tribute to the skill of the carpenters. The artisans village is a group of traditional styled thatch houses show casing the distinct arts and crafts of the region which include the potter, the oil extraction using an ox mill known as ‘gana’, bamboo and palm mat weaving, an iron smith and carpenter among others.
